Being in a funk means just not being yourself or not feeling the strength within yourself to move forward in life or lift yourself up to do things- just anything. Today we will not talk about a ‘get yourself up to speed’ list. See it more like a list of things to do for self- care.
Though this might not be the bull’s eye for some magical boost for your life or getting you out of a funk, it might as well be the thing closest to magic on this side of the universe. Depression can be tremendously incapacitating, and it is never easy to deal with.
However, the following 5 activities may help you start loving yourself or understanding yourself better and help you get out of a funk, slowly, steadily, or even all at once.Â
1. Fall in love with yourself
As abstract as it might sound, this might as well be the strongest thing to do to get out of a funk. Love is not just a four letter word- it is a power, a strength and motivation which gives you a purpose to chase something with passion. Make that something yourself. Maybe over the last years you have allowed self-hatred, a detrimental emotion, to grow within yourself.
Maybe you have that state of burn out or that end of the rope where you do not sleep in time, do not have appetite for the most delicious of foods and you might even just want to be gone forever. However, this emotion is just a one-way ticket to treading an even darker path of human misery and pressure.
You can start embracing your character, yourself, your choices and just everything about you, with a heart full of love. Read books, check out videos and talk to people who love you the most to realize how beautiful a person you are, and how you deserve to be loved by yourself.
2. Stop staying inside 24/7
If you look at our history, you will realize why this is so important. We are humans, who have evolved. Like animals, we need to be able to move around, see the surroundings, smell the obvious, breathe the fresh air, feel the wind, scorch in the heat and just be outdoors.
These 4 walled cubicles which we call our abode sometimes can be the very confines we build for ourselves. We limit our world by not stepping outside. Just like plants, we also need sunshine and on and off strolls in parks to rejuvenate our souls. Nature is the best healer.
3. Confront Problems
This is the most difficult of all that you will read in this list. How can we solve problems or find solutions to issues if we do not know what the real concern is? In order to make something better, it is always wise to check, evaluate and ponder over why and how is it wrong in the first place.
Once that is clear, you can sit and make a concrete plan or decide the next steps to follow to fix the problem. ‘Ignorance is bliss’ is not the best approach forever. Avoiding and procrastination can only alleviate the intensity, making it harder to get out of. Let’s talk with an example. Are you financially struggling? Maybe you need to sit and make a list of all your debts, bills and start handling them one at a time. Is your relationship in ruins?
Have you tried talking to your partner about your problems? Is it getting toxic every day? Do you, deep down, believe it can get better? Then have an adult conversation, and try to reach a conclusion with mutual understanding. And if going separate ways is healthier, take the action. Just, don’t wait too long because the problem rots.
4. Write down your thoughts
In the hustle of life, we often forget to stick to our old habits or old-school hobbies. Writing in a journal is one such habit we have started to lose over time. Instead of browsing depressing quotes in your social media, take the time to discover your thoughts. Maybe you have too much piled up in your head and you are confused.
Take your time, think about your day and get your pen to start writing down whatever you are feeling inside. Try to make a SWOT analysis of yourself if that is what you need to find out about yourself. Or, write down your problems, goals, wishes and any kind of thoughts.
Writing magnifies the thoughts and helps you focus on them. If you want to do something really positive, start writing about your dreams. No matter how unattainable dreams may look, you cannot make it a reality unless you have dreamt about it, and worked towards it. If you want to recount memories, stick pictures on your journal and write notes about those memories and how they made you happy.
5. Therapy or Meditation
This can be challenging- pouring your heart out to a stranger. However, talking helps. This is best with a therapist because it is his or her job to give you tactics and assistance to deal with your problems. You can also talk to someone from your circle of friends or family, if that is what comforts you more.
However, sometimes you need a neutral third person to hear your thoughts to give you a wise remark. Meditation can also be a great coping strategy to calm your soul and to start feeling your senses better. Subscribe to meditation channels on YouTube to train yourself to let yourself abstain from any and every thought for a few minutes a day.
Conclusion
To conclude, life is too short already and if you want to help yourself live it fully, try these strategies and let yourself experience, how beautiful it is out there when you embrace it with a smile.
